i need something to look forward to since work is getting really sian~ its nearing the end of the season and i'm damn tired...

so i've decided to plan the dinner/supper menu for our stayover! yay!
everything listed is what i plan to do but definitely not definite since it really depends on how much energy i have at the end of the season which happens to be around the stayover date.

SO FAR...

- tuna, tomatoes and onion tarts ala attas picnic style
- ice cream / frozen yogurt of some sort
- some healthy vege

we had a brunch gathering today!

so we forgot to take pictures again. haha maybe you guys could try to imagine the food which was not bad in general and the dessert was fantabulous! i think you can get some help with the ps cafe menu online =)

PS CAFE - here's what we had today! a bit ex like 40-ish per person but i think i'll definitely be open to going back! like once in a while lah, not so rich also. haha. all in all i think the brunch items we ordered were not bad, the lasagne was very well seasoned imho. mushroom wellington, and chicken in basket were not bad, esp the sauces for chicken in basket! though we got like some bad service when we asked for extra sauce, even though in the end they decided to give us one more serving without extra charge. i actually quite like the ratatouille and was quite glad cw ordered it despite the discouragement from sk (too negative sometimes). actually cw was late and didnt hear the remarks. eggs benedict was just normal and i think so were bacon and eggs. truffle fries was ok lah, coz its just fries and truffle oil. i mean its not like WOW super nice. just nice. the ginger steamed pudding was so good!! =DDDD

btw, i think the most exciting part was this:

anyway i think i should list down the restaurants/food that i really wanna go try so as to tempt you all into a gathering soon again and with much better attendance. though i think that ppl who dont attend gatherings dont come here hrmmmmm

EVERYTHING WITH FRIES - looks interesting though sk say not nice. by awfully chocolate grp

WILD ROCKET - fusion casual dining restaurant at mt emily! only deterrence is the mountain climbing. but i think its a great way to burn calories haha.

WILD OATS - wild rocket and wild oats are just side by side actually. same owner who also owns relish and burger bench bar at cineleisure. i think its now going to be the only thing i eat at cine when i go for a movie though so far i've only tried 2 burgers and one was good (catfish green curry) while the other was just ok. =)

RELISH - actually i've been here before. the first branch at cluny court for a company xmas. some of my colleagues think its just normal but i really really liked the blue cheese and pear burger featured in the review. very glad that i found that it's also now at serangoon gardens! much easier to go than cluny court and also v near mrs neo's! hehehe.

THE GARDEN SLUG - its actually just at where sk lives now haha. anyway the ribs in the review look so gorgeous!

WITH A PINCH OF SALT - its like along tanjong katong road like in the row of shops beside the canadian international sch.

ARTICHOKE CAFE - so now that secret garden (the dessert shop at sculpture sq) has closed during the time i said i wanted to try, its now taken over by artichoke. haha

HAIRLOOM AND CARAMEL - hairloom and caramel is actually the shop of my colleague's friend. salon + food + lifestyle shop. the menu doesn't look super exciting but the interior looks so cute!

SPRUCE - a bit hard to go but looks interesting! they get the produce from their own farm!

ORIOLE CAFE - at pan pac suites just beside 313 somerset. omg the beef cheek tagliatelle looks so amazing!

PLATYPUS TEST KITCHEN - i think its totally hard to get to eat at this place coz of the opening hours. but i think the squid ink seafood marinara looks really nice!

SABOTEN - at parco millenia walk. i think this is the best tonkatsu so far in singapore. much better than tampopo too. they have free flow cabbage, rice, miso soup, dressing, green tea, everything except your meat and ice cream. haha. very very nice!

PATISSERIE FLOR - hohoho look at those pictures! their waguri millefeuille sounds so nice!

THE PATISSIER - according to my colleague, their best seller and original: passionfruit meringue, is very nice and surpasses all the other cakes they offer. =DD

k.ki - k.ki occupies half a lifestyle store at ann siang hill. i've been to the store but havent tried the cakes. so cute, though its again attas pricing lah.

tadaaa if you've read the whole post as you should have, you might have alr forgotten abt this but here's the answer to the owner of the hand in the picture above!

we split the picnic into 2 parts coz wj was hungry by the time i got there. she didn't eat breakfast so we had sandwiches and fruits before we cycled.
i think this place is like a private room for our picnic. =)

hoho, we bought the mat (in picture is 1/2 actual size coz we didn't open fully) at ecp in anticipation for more attas picnics

Place: Barracks Cafe @ House (8D Dempsey Road, general map here and map of dempsey hill here) you can view their very exciting (imho) menu on their website. i reserved outdoor dining

How to go:
By Public Bus - 2nd bus stop after the gleneagles/botanic gardens. Mouse over the yellow bus-stop signs on the map above to find out what buses go there. quite a walk from the main road so wear sensible shoes! and if you get lost, you can ask the "guides" around the place for blk 8D or House. i think they wear a special polo tee.

By Shuttle bus - dempsey hill has a shuttle bus service, but i'm not sure if it's free since i've seen "minimal rate" being mentioned somewhere on googled results. service schedule here

By taxi - it's self explanatory.

Please don't be too late! since there might be a certain few people who have to work the next day! if you're there early, they have a bookshop/spa upstairs. so you can explore. =)

Jap KTV @ Cash Studio

You must be wondering...what kind of ktv place has a name like cash studio. When sk told me the name, I thought it sounded like a pachinko salon! But you can't deny this place has a very good japanese song collection, albeit the cheap MVs. It's almost like they imported both the catalogue and machine direct from japan. Besides, you could bring in your own food and drinks, which I figured out was only reasonable since the drinks they served were overpriced and erm... not exactly desirable. Both cw and mel had commented that their teh tasted weird, and I couldn't agree more. Ok, why do I sound like I'm writing a review for them, lol. Picture time!

ahhHhHh~ 出来た！

KANSAI - OSAKA, KYOTO, NARA

this part of the trip will be very much cultural, historical and religious since kyoto is the where the old capital of japan used to be. the first capital was in nara. so there'll be lots of shrines, lots of temples and prob lots of oldish restaurants/shops.

DAY 1

KYOTO

KYOTO STATION

The Cube: a place that sells stuff that's good for souvenirs. 2nd floor is clothing and basement and 1st storey sells 土产 like wagashi etc. can go to shop and spend leftover cash if departing for airport from kyoto station and have not enough souvenirs.
we could plan this for the first day when we reach kyoto and have admin stuff to do like checking in etc. for kyoto there are 3 hostels that i found that have quite good reviews: bak pak hostel (they have both kyoto and gion hostels), they also have night buses which is good for travelling between cities. it's near to sight seeing attractions such as heian jingu and yasaka jinja. backpackers hostel K's house kyoto: walking distance (10mins) from kyoto station which i think is better since we don't want to travel too far with luggage. the reception opens earlier too (8am) so we can leave luggage there before we check in. nearby amenities include convenience store, supermarket(10mins). j-hoppers kyoto: also near the kyoto station, walking distance (7min) but it looks a little run down. the osaka one looks better.

DAY 2

GION

if we're lucky, we might see maiko on the streets. there's this street, 白川南通, which supposedly is where many tourists go to try their luck.
yasaka-jinja: also known as gion shrine. built to ward of disasters and epidemic. doesnt seem to have admission fee. =)
gion tsujiri: sells green tea and related food like cha-soba (683yen for what seems like a set in the picture), kushi dango with mochi set (1155yen) etc. they also sell things like cakes, ice cream and the tea itself. upstairs, there's also another tea specialty shop.
かさ源：specialty shop that sells paper umbrellas.
food: 丹波屋 that sells 庶民 food like daifuku, and dango. 泉天門 that sells gyoza only (460yen for 10).
heian jingu: not in gion but if i read maps well enough, it should be nearby. probably 20-30mins walk away(about 1+km). it has the largest torii gate in japan. admission to temple is free but there are fees for the gardens. i bought 2 of the nicest omamori (御守) there one in the shape of a momo and another very delicate lantern-like one. i dont know if they changed. it is actually also near to kiyomizu, because gion is near to kiyomizu lah.

DAY 3

KIYOMIZU

kiyomizudera: one of the most visited temples in kyoto and a unesco site. from here you can overlook kyoto and see kyoto tower if the weather is good. drink holy water and pray. the hilly road leading to the temple has many many traditional shops that sell wagashi, souvenirs and there's also a 1005yen shop. there's a tea place inside the temple 六花亭 that sells wagashi and matcha.
jishu-jinja: beside kiyomizu and ppl come here to pray for relationships and love etc. of coz also can pray for other stuff lah.
七味家：the first shop that created the 七味 powder (you know the one that yoshinoya provides). they also sell other condiments like yuzu, pepper and japanese pepper.
food: あみ亭 (matcha softie and matcha choux 250yen each), when i went there last time we had udon and ebi furai don which was quite good, but i dont know the pricing.

DAY 4

UJI

famous for matcha products. so i think its probably just buying and looking at tea stuff.
nakamura tokichi: the best known green tea cafe in uji famous for its parfait.
伊籐久右衛门: wholesale for uji-cha so prices are cheaper. also sells food like matcha daifuku (1260yen for 12), chocolate (1050yen per box i think), cheesecake, cakes, purin (1050yen for 4), and cha-soba (1050yen).
泉園: sells tea (surprise surprise!)

INARI

fushimi inari jinja (大社): most famous shinto shrine. dedicated to inari (yeah the same inari-zushi inari) the god/goddess of rice, and foxes are thought to be the messengers so there are a lot of fox statues in the area. there's a 4km long torii tunnel along the mountain path up to the temple. they say it takes about 2 hours up. (i really really wanna go see the torii tunnel. puh-lease~)

DAY 5

NARA

kofukuji: admission free for temple grounds, 500yen for treasury hall and 300 for another hall. unesco whc. the pagoda is equivalent to 17 storeys. (15 mins frm JR nara station)
todaiji: admission 500yen. unesco world heritage center (世界遗产）buddhist temple and the largest wooden building in the world. one of the most touristy temples that i went to the other time i was in japan. they have MANY MANY stalls selling MANY MANY THINGS. it's situated in nara koen (20 mins walk from JR nara station) and there'll be deers *greeting* you at the pathway leading towards the entrance. i think deer feed is on sale outside and i also remember seeing stalls selling roasted sweet potatoes. but that was spring lah.
nakatanidou: sells fresh wagashi and biscuits.
kasuga taisha: free admission to temple, fee for 2 of the halls. legend has it that one of the 4 gods, Takenomikazuchi-no-mikoto, once landed atop Mt. Mikasayama riding a deer, at the current address of the taisha. famous for stone and hanging lanterns and the nara deer still roam since the taisha is also within the nara koen. nara deer are wild and protected animals and those here are more shy and not that boisterous.
tonkatsu: a restaurant that sells erm, tonkatsu (980yen). they also have ebi furai.
湖月： a famous shop in nara that sells wagashi and known for its 16cm dorayaki (735yen).
naramachi: old neighbourhood with olden style houses and shops. they have cafes and places that sell wagashi.

DAY 6

OSAKA

UMEDA/OSAKA STATION

ohatsu tenjin: original name: tsuyu tenjinsha popular site for suicidal lovers in the genroku era, you know the romeos and juliets. a drama, sonezaki shinju, was written based on the stories where the heroine's name was ohatsu (therefore now it's known as ohatsu tenjin). i think there's a gyoza shop beside this that sells both okonomiyaki (800yen) and gyoza(550yen and up).
osaka tenmangu: where students pray for their exams! free admission. but it seems a bit far, like in btw osaka castle and umeda. will reconsider.
yodobashi: umeda's largest electronics store. there's a comme ca store that's 7 storeys worth of everything (clothes, zakka (杂货), toys etc. including jump shop, which sk and yt should be very interested in) there's also a sweets museum on the 7th storey which well, sells desserts like yami yogurt(370yen), matcha ice cream, ... on the 8th storey, there's a dimsum buffet place; weekday lunch 80mins for 1598yen, dinner 120mins 2097yen.
naniwa gyoza stadium (naniwa = old name for osaka): collection of japan's gyoza shops from okinawa, kyoto, nara, etc. i think admission is 350yen. the guide book's picture of the teppan gyoza (8 for 480yen) looks damn nice!
umeda sky building: admission 700yen. there's an observatory in the sky garden (floating garden observatory) which is open air. in winter, there'll be a christmas tree of 28m in height. the sunset picture in the guidebook looks very nice too!
hankyu umeda station: there's a kinokuniya which i think at least a couple of us would be quite interested in! =)
diamor osaka: underground shopping centre with 4 streets of different themes. (casual, fashionable, variety)
junkudo(south of osaka station): books, foreign + japanese
hostels i found in osaka: j-hoppers osaka

DAY 7

NAMBA

dotonbori: dotonbori is the epitome of the kuidaore (食い倒れ) city of osaka which means roughly "to eat till you drop" or "bankruptcy due to spending too much on food". there's a shop, kuidaore, that sells katsudon, but it's shutting down in july.
tsuruhashi fugetsu: budget eatery with good okonomiyaki, yakisoba and a view overlooking umeda.
hozenji yokocho: narrow alleyway with stone pavements that hides a small myo (庙), hozenji, that's famous for it's moss covered buddhist statue. there's a red bean soup place, meoto senzai(夫妻善哉) that was popularised with a book.
kinokuniya(hankyu umeda station)
shitenno-ji: admission 300yen; museum another 200yen. one of the oldest buddhist temples in japan, though most of the building is a concrete reconstruction. two statues (门神) look like the monsters from kakurenbo.
sumiyoshi taisha (大社）: head of all sumiyoshi shrines (~2000 in japan). it's perfect example of japanese styled buildings without chinese buddhist influence. free admission!
100 yen plaza: there's no specific intro on this in the books but if we find it we probably could go buy stuff! its like 5-storey daiso.
tsutaya + starbucks: 24h shop that sells things from mags, books to cds etc.
赤鬼： takoyaki that's supposedly very good. 360yen for 6. there's another one beside that's 330yen for 6 which has a 30yr history.

DAY 8

SHINSAIBASHI

shopping and food area. shinsaibashi is the largest shopping street in osaka.
ryugu tei: all you can eat kaiten sushi (conveyor belt). adult female: 1200yen (i think it's 890yen for weekday lunches). no time limit.
america-mura: second hand shops, gift and souvenirs. okonomiyaki (800yen), and takoyaki (11 for 300yen) recommendations. there's a small park inside that is said to be a good resting point. can buy the takoyaki and sit there to eat while watching the osakans.
daimaru: i'm not sure if you guys wanna go. but apparently there's like food heaven in the food department in the basement. haha and they introduced a tonkatsu sandwich. sounds so interesting! there's also bakeries, etc. near daimaru there's a bookshop, athens, which is 6 storeys and the 5th is a like art gallery too.
uniqlo: if you read cy's blog. he spent a lot there. hehe. stocks casual wear. opp uniqlo is a udon restaurant and the cheapest is like 105yen per bowl.

DAY 9 (we could scrape this day if it becomes too long or too expensive)

OSAKA CASTLE

admission to the actual castle is 600yen. free for the surroundings and castle park. the main tower is the museum and there's an osaka castle observatory. not as beautiful as himeiji castle, but still an osaka icon, so we could probably not go into the museum/actual castle and just take photos from the outside?
osaka-jo koen: admission free. there's different gardens inside the park and it really is quite big, so we could prob walk around to see and maybe maybe see ume in the ume garden. another attraction inside the park is hokoku jinja. if interested, we could go to the osaka museum of history.

TENJINBASHI

天満宫: osaka tenmangu worships the god of knowledge and studies so people come to pray for their studies here.
wagashi "shopping centre": sells weird sweets and tidbits. good for buying souvenirs.
apparently a lot of cheap stuff in the area like 75yen nigiri-zushi, 100yen okonomiyaki like thingum, 60yen koroke and 100yen sushi.
guidebook says its better to start after lunch because the shops will start to slash their prices for the end of the day.

OUR PIGS ARE STRESS-FREE!

as declared on de menu of Tampopo for Kurobuta(black pig) pork.

apparently de pigs have to be raised in a low-stress environment cos stress causes them to produce energy using intramuscular fat hence resulting in dry, tough meat.
(i think we humans taste super horrible with our super super stressful lifestyle)

yea...so they get to 散步 on clover pastures, eat good food every meal for everyday of their lives, n live in a temperature maintained heat-free place.

how nice o_o

maybe in my next life i shld be a kurobuta or wagyu(和牛)

ok here are the list of things that we've found from both the net and the guide books. feel free to strike off or add in! argh i spent 3 nights doing this! first time i studied in years, and it's to be a tour guide...

TOKYO (cy pls intro more!)

i was thinking of having a free day to walk around the area that we're staying. like just to settle in a bit before we head on to our intensive shop-play-eat trip. either first day or the last day or we could take it easy for day 4 which i only planned for jiyugaoka coz i don't know what else to plan it with. worth noting: the guidebook advises shopping at convenience stores all around tokyo. things like onigiri(105yen) for breakfast, hard boiled eggs (50yen), purin/pudding(105yen) are sold at convenience stores such as 7-11, OK, ampm, lawson, etc.

DAY 1

ASAKUSA

senso-ji and asakusa-jinja: they're all in the same compound. dedicated to bodhisattva kannon (basically guan yin). 求签 for 100yen, 烧香 also 100yen. basically it'll be about the same for all the temples/shrines we go to but senso ji and asakusa-jinja has free admission.
nakamise dori: one of the oldest shopping areas in japan. buy souvenirs eg. hp chains, tidbits eg. ningyo-yaki, senbei, age manju and dango. more for consumption than for bringing back to sg though i brought the ningyo-yaki home before. there's also shin-nakamise dori and dempoin dori.
lunch recommendations from guidebook and wikitravel: tendon (tempura-don). daikokuya, sansada (guidebook) and aoi marushin (wiki travel).
kappabashi dougugai: between ueno and asakusa. sells restaurant wholesale stuff including wax/plastic models for the food, utensils, etc.

DAY 2

UENO

ameyayokocho/ameyoko: market street. basically sells a lot of stuff ranging from shoes to tidbits and dried goods to fresh seafood like tako, ikura, etc. when i was there, we bought the wasabi peas home and also the matcha flavoured senbei (remember? the ones i brought for you guys, green and white). bargaining is accepted and some stall owners even speak a little bit of chinese/hokkien. there's a shop that sells 4000yen's worth of chocolate in goodie bags at 1000yen each bag. of course you can buy the loose ones but it'll be more ex.
ueno koen: famous for museums, sakura and ueno zoo which had pandas (the last panda like just died like 2 weeks ago!). there's also toshogu jinja.

AKIHABARA (AKIBA)

erm. it's otaku heaven.
there are vending machines that sell ramen in cans. perfect for the otaku in you.
i think we can take night shots, it looks quite nice with the lights.

DAY 3

NIPPORI

yanaka/nezu/sendagi = yanesen: historical neighbourhoods of tokyo. attractions are - asakura sculpture hall, yanaka ginza, kannonji (观音庙), yanaka reien (cemetry park), etc. 4 routes that we can take from the link above. travelocity also has a walking tour or yanaka with eating/break spots recommendations eg. saboh hanahenro with bento boxes at 1200yen, set lunch at 1000yen. then there's shops that sell baskets and a lot of the buildings are at least 100 years old. apparently we can walk from here to ueno or vice versa. i'm wondering if we should split up textile town and yanesen because it requires a lot of energy to do the walking tour and then go textile shopping.
nippori textile town: buy buy buy fabrics and diy materials! no cards accepted therefore bring loads of cash and probably a luggage bag. most talked about store is tomato that is 5 storeys worth of fabrics, with the first storey selling bargains at 100yen per metre.

DAY 4

JIYUGAOKA

sweet forest: it's a theme park with a collection of dessert shops. in japan theme parks are not just for roller coasters and pirate ships. they are for food as well. the shops in sweet forest has 8 different shops (like a HK sweets shop, creperie, limited edition sweets shop, souffle shop...) in which all the chefs have been overseas and some even has awards. there's a baking needs shop downstairs! *GASP*
crystal 100yen shop: apparently this one is exceptionally classy in the swamp of 100yen shops in japan.
there's also a traditional dessert shop which sells traditional sweets with matcha, coffee, etc.
thanks nature: they have a free shuttle bus that runs on used cooking oil!
towel museum

DAY 5

KICHIJOJI

ghibli museum: 1000yen admission, tickets to be bought up to 3 mths in advance (from 1st oct onwards). 15 mins from kichijoji station but there's also a bus service.
inokashira koen: first park founded by the emperor for the public. they say its a good place to see sakura and momiji, both of which are the wrong season. roar. i think there's also a temple, kichijoji in there.
shopping streets: yuzawaya (8 stories worth of daily necessities, fabrics, toys, stationary, for the DIY peeps), lattice (300yen shop, clothes 1000yen), onao (tradional paper and related souvenirs)
momo paradise (1700yen) / momo para nabe zo(1890yen): all you can eat shabu shabu. ok wiki travel says they are in kichijoji but the website doesn't say so. but they have many other branches in ikebukuro, shibuya, and ueno area. [edit]place found in kichijoji. apparently theres a time limit for de buffets. refer to link for more details on menu.
cat cafe calico: cafe with cats for cat lovers who don't/can't keep cats at home. see their resident cats, erm and a dog.

DAY 6

SHINJUKU

basically a shopping district.
takashimaya: 15 storeys!! also known as times square. restaurant on 13th is recommended for tonkatsu (pork cutlet), set meal for 2 is 3000yen but apparently can serve 3.
nakamuraya: first curry rice restaurant in japan. apparently long queues for their cream bread.
momo paradise: yup the all you can eat shabu shabu place. but in shinjuku, there's a 90min limit (don't know if it applies in kichijoji as well) and it seems more pricey at 3600yen. discount coupons available at the door.
tocho: tokyo metropolitan gov tower. free observatories for both day and night skyline views of tokyo. if weather is good, you can see fujiyama. directly behind is central park, where there's kumano jinja and relatively big number of homeless people in cardboard houses. different from shinjuku koen (imperial gardens).
skyscraper district: in nishi-shinjuku (west shinjuku). most places in japan don't have very tall buildings because of earthquakes, that's why it's like an attraction. the link is very interesting! it's 35 years of fixed point photography. watch shinjuku evolve! another photog link here.
shinohara furin hompo: making 风铃. it's not in downtown shinjuku. i don't know if you guys wanna go. it seemed interesting but after thinking it might not be advisable since we're not very well verse in japanese and the sensei might die teaching us.

DAY 7

HARAJUKU

"go to harajuku and see the freaks" - my sister (no offence intended!)
another shopping area.
cafe crepe: first creperie in harajuku.
wired cafe 360: free internet access, design related books, harajuku observatory.
maisen: supposedly best tonkatsu (pork cutlet) in japan.

IKEBUKURO

see owls everywhere! erm like sculptures, carvings etc.
namja town: admission 300yen. gyoza stadium, ice cream city, cup ice museum, dessert republic
mutekiya: apparently very very good ramen. small seating capacity of 10 (quite normal for all japanese restaurants), so long queue to go in to sit.

DAY 8

TOKYO TOWER

it's actually taller than effiel. i think it'll be nice both in the day and at night. ok so we'll have to plan how to work that out.
tokyo curry lab: apparently the best curry in tokyo for 1000 - 1200yen. 2nd lvl of tokyo tower. supposedly entrance to the tower is free, unless you wanna go to the observation floors, which is supposedly not the 2nd lvl.
zojoji: main temple of the buddhist jodo sect in kanto area. i think entrance is free, but going to the cemetery is 300yen.
maybe we could go in the morning to the tower, take some pictures, then walk around the area and come back again at night for more pictures.

ROPPONGI

nightlife district, foreigner-friendly because surrounding districts have a lot of embassies and there's a large expatriate community. think it looks better at night too.
mori tower: with tokyo city view and if going to mori art center, the admission is included.

NOT IN LIST (because i don't know if you guys wanna go or if it's worth going)

YOKOHAMA: biggest chinatown in the world. very tourist-y. maybe good for photographs? at night? they sell a lot of "chinese food" though not very chinese. they have bao, mooncake like stuff, etc. and shinyokohama raamen museum: erm yah ramen theme park. admission 300yen then you go choose which restaurant you want to eat from. there's also nissin cup noodle area when you can customise your own cup noodle at a fee. then they will seal, package in this children inflatable swimming float like thingy.
GINZA: shopping district. according to cy it's the ex ones. which i think so too (burberry, LV, hermes, chanel, dior, cartier, ahhhhh you get it)
HAKONE: if we were to go and make it worth, we'll have to go for about 2 days 1 night. it's famous for the scenic views (lake, fujiyama) and onsens. attractions include active volcano selling boiled eggs (kuro tamago/black eggs); little prince museum, hakone jinja, ashinoko (lake ashi) with views of fujiyama.
SHIBUYA: another shopping district. we can choose between the few bah.
AOYAMA & OMOTESANDO: shopping again, prada,
TSUKIJI: world's largest fish market, eat sushi for breakfast, buy fresh wasabi, look at tuna auction, basically wholesale stuff.

NIHONBASHI

i don't know if it's a good enough plan or not because i'm trying to keep places close together in 1 day. pls let me know if you think it's too rush esp cy and intro/strike out and tell me about rearranging the schedule if need be. everything i have here is based on my knowledge from the net and the guidebook and i really don't know if it's a good plan or not.

okay peeps. i'm here to do an update on our japan trip.
i think we have to plan how many days we're going to go, but we'll set it at about 2 weeks? non? so we'll dedicate 1 week to tokyo, and cy will have to bring us around! and then another week to the kyoto, osaka and nara area.

i'm going to list down the attractions that i thought would be good to go and then you'll decide if you guys wanna add in or take out anything alright? going to japan will NOT be the same if you don't go to temples and shrines. so i'm more towards the cultural aspects of travel but i know you guys wanna eat your way around / shop your way around.

tokyo (cy pls intro more!)
- asakusa (it's like the old town of tokyo. attractions: sensoji, dempoin dori)
- akihibara (otaku heaven)
- yokohama (2nd largest city of japan. world's largest chinatown)
- nippori textile town (ITS A TOWN that sells fabric!! MUAHAHA. apparently on the other side of the nippori station is a place that is retained like the old EDO/tokyo called yanaka *check here and here*and seems quite charming to me. wanna go? depending on how much time we have lah? hehe coz i have a feeling i might use up 1 day at the textile town.)
- ghibli museum (we should marathon all the ghibli animations one of this saturdays! i haven;t watch howl's moving castle leh!! stay over again! =D)
- tokyo tower? do you guys wanna go?

* there's this fish market (tsukiji fish market) that they say is a great place to go for sushi breakfast. hahaha. i don't know if you guys wanna go around the mt fuji area. which is hakone. it's more scenic and it's famed for the onsens (hot springs) which again i dont know if you guys wanna go. i've been there and it's quite a beautiful place, but it does depend on the weather and because i was there in spring, i'm not sure about it in winter.

kyoto/osaka/nara (because they're very near each other)
- kiyomizudera (UNESCO site. the old town like streets leading to the temple has a lot of great stuff!)
- gion? (we might be able to see geishas?)
- todaiji (in nara koen with wild deer! ahaha.)
- osaka castle (i haven't been in there, only outside and at night. but the city lights from the castle look like HDB in sg!!)

* we might want to go down to koens (garden/park) or even down to himeiji. himeiji castle looks more spectacular than osaka castle but it's 1h away from osaka and kyoto.

we need an open jaw ticket which will allow us to arrive in tokyo narita airport and depart from osaka kansai airport. seems like there's budget hotels for backpackers that have branches in tokyo and kyoto areas and they've got quite good reviews. check them out here and here. and there's this bus service that operates at night. so its bed and bus and you'll be travelling overnight which i think might help save accomodation and time. read more here.

of course we would wanna go shopping! so in tokyo we're looking at either shibuya, shinjuku or ginza and i'd definitely wanna go buy fabric! in osaka/kyoto area i'm still not sure but will check out more.

i also think we shouldn't pack the itinerary too full since we'd wanna be able to walk around the place and explore. non?

前因后果：me & yt went for dinner...1st stop...Din Tai Feng. our orders-- 3笼xiaolongbao, 1笼prawn shaomai, & one dandan noodles for me. each long has 10 dumplings ah...so in de end we had like 40 dumplings to share....

we still managed to finish everything...& not feel like puking...was just nice...

den...we went for dessert...cos i have been craving for cake...sooooo...

It was a day of round-table fish & co., mussels, wrasse, dory and sweeney todd. i feel you...johanna~

The art-sians made a wise choice not to da-bao (chinese word for takeaway, pronounced as "deh-bao" with angmoh-speaking-chinese accent) the left-over chunky fries and calamari for the movie, or they would certainly have done synchronized retching together with the blood-fountain displays.

When interviewed, art-sian #5 said, "We need to bring a camera next time round! And I miss my sony ericsson - takes clearer hp pics~". The others could not be reached for comment.

"2 thumbs up!" -the daily apple

After much speculation, the much talked-about (yeah right, lol) art picnic #2 was organized.

For some reason, the participants were mistaken as celebrities and when the media and papparazi discovered them, they, well...covered themselves up

Convinced that they were left alone to enjoy the picnic, they tucked into their feast consisting of home-made sandwiches, nachos, sausages, and tuna and crackers. They made merry with Yakult,

Soya Bean,

mahjong,

acting cool

apples, and...more Yakult.

When they figured out that the MOON wasn't going to show and the MOUNTAIN wasn't visible (yes moon mountain), they packed up and commenced their cycling trip to the famed faux-Rottnest. Along the journey, they saw humongous ants,

UFOs,

and sceneries unknown to any other human beings except themselves.

As the day drew to an end, they decided it was time to return to where they belonged, and disappeared into the woods..

so the xmas party is in 1 mth's time and here are some additional details that i've promised you guys. will be updating again and also will need to rope in people to help me with the organising because i won't be in singapore. i promise promise it wouldn't be as disorganised as last year =p

Date: 20 Dec (and i'm quite a goon to have set it on thurs but no choice! so army boys pls apply leave. like now!)

Time: Please start coming in at 6 - 6.30pm (keeping in mind that art activities never start on time, the we'll probably really start at about 7 - 7.30)

Venue: 7 Yio Chu Kang Terrace (which is mrs neo's place if you don't know =p)

Additional details

Gift exchange: This year we won't allocate giftees so we'll be going back to the "lucky draw" format for gift exchange. So bring a gift for the pool! And no budgets so you could probably exceed the previous $10. But do think about how much you wanna spend on the gift, so not too expensive. =p

Xmas hat: Remember last year's xmas hat?! We'll be continuing with the *make an ornament for the hat* activity and we're telling you early so that you can have 1 mth to make something for yourself and your friends.

For the uninitiated like the year 1s and 2s or whoever weren't there last year, bring a santa hat. Make something cute, xmas-inspired and attach a device (safety pin, collar pin, velcro, last year we had clothes peg) that allows you to use it like a brooch and you can pin it onto the santa hat =)Oh and don't worry, you don't have make 40 for everyone. Maybe a couple (like 3? 4?) so that you could exchange with a few people. But of course if you wanna do some mass production of your pins pls go ahead! we'll be very happy! =p

Food: It's potluck again! We gauge attendance at about 40 so food should be able to cater to like 35 - 40. So like last year, the food budget for each person would be $10. And we'll be having the different categories again but to make things easier 1 or 2 batch(es) will be in-charge for each category. Yet to confirm. i think it's more advisable to pool in the money within the group/batch and then decide on what food to get/make/cook.

Hi all,

guess most of yall are either busy with conquering heaps of assignments and deadlines, or experiencing intense detestation of a place you have no choice but to be at..

Was doing some life drawing in class today, and I was thinking,
isn’t it amazing just how everything falls in place so perfectly?

Everything in nature has its own forms, and it is to us to appreciate their beauty!
I guess that regardless if u’re doing art now and will consider it as your career, or not by opening your options to do something else, it is the “eye of appreciation” that we’ve picked up throughout the 2 years with our lovely art teachers, and it’ll stay with us..

A lesson on a normal day..in a noraml p school

A discussion was carried out to let students realise the importance of water for s*cial studies..
(decode: TTG= teacher the Great, BTC= Brat of The Century)

TTG: What are the uses of water?
BTC: SPA, facials, flushing in the toilet and bathing (then they end up laughing their heads off.dun know why)

TTG: How can you use water in the neighbourhood?
BTC: in fire engines to put out fire
TTG (respond immediately) : Your neighbourhood got fire everyday is it?

TTG: How can u conserve our water resource?
BTC1: dip your head in the toilet bowl to wash your hair!
BTC2: drink more new water cos they're all sewage water!
TTG: (with the diao-ed expression) new water is not sewage water!they're treated already!
BTC3: then stick a straw into the drains and drink sewage water, then the gov no need spend money to treat water!

and then all the BTCs continued to laugh their heads off

Restaurant Etiquettes

#1. Never be too demanding, be an eater easy on all food, especially if you wan your food to be delivered in the shortest time. (if u can't help but be demanding with your orders, find some company who are not like you)

#2. Do not ask for e server's help when he/she is back from tables with demands . U're interupting her/his thoughts and mess up everything..its rude!

#3. Do not expect servers to serve ur food like 5 minutes after taking your orders. Chefs need time to cook, and servers have no control over chefs. but if u wan your food unpresentable, jolly well hurry people.

#4. Go to a restaurant that is obviously not cheap looking, with money, especailly if you're a guy. A table of 4 guys and 2 gals asking to go on dutch when the bill comes and end up going to the ATM is outrageously a laughing stock to all

#5. Kindness begets kindness. Pay attention to server's spieling(aka intro) or get ur orders taken last. Take your pick.

#6. Save your complain if its regarding #86 items (aka dun-have-stock), cos its really freaking a fact!

#7. Do not ask too many redundant questions. If u don't know what is it, just try it out. Maybe it'll be to your preference? if its not, take it as an experience. For not all servers dine at their workplace ever, they dun know the taste

#8. Do not ask to spilt the bill when obviously u all are sitting at the same table. Jolly go out and settle yourselves after the meal.

#9. Having stupid demands like asking a western food chef to deshell your prawns will probably end u up with diarroea cos u dun know who's doing the deshelling( high prob its an ah neh cleaner). Chefs have no time for that. Western food dun offer deshelled prawns.

#10. Never ever and ever try to finish food that u disapproved of and ask for a change after u're almost done. That's bastardy..

Always smile and say thank you for all the service.Be considerate. U are not borned to be served with kindness. :P

It's me again! Ok so let me give you updates of the TJC ARTS HUB thingum that we're supposed to gather and brainstorm about. And this brings about the good news! We're going to meet up again! In the Art Room! Yay!

Ok that excitement aside, we will probably have to meet up one day to discuss about the ideas we have and the details of this project. So this brings us to the main question. Will next week, which is the 7th - 11th of May, be a good week for us to meet up? Because I think all you guys have finished your exams and should be able to come to TJ for a morning of discussion? We're estimating the duration to last 1 hour, give and take. The teachers (including me! =p), will be able to hold this discussion on Tuesday (8th May), Thursday (10th May) and Friday (11th May). This would be more suitable as the students will come in from 1140 onwards on these days and throughout the day for the rest of the week.

Please RSVP me by this Friday (4th May) via sms.

Things that you could probably think about prior to attending this discussion are:

- Ideas on how we could renovate the area marked for the ARTS HUB.
- Additional features, functional or decorative or both, that we can set up in the ARTS HUB.
- What you have hoped to have for the ARTS HUB when you were studying in TJ.
- Ideas/features which you have seen (in magazines, your current campus, Curtin campus, etc.) that made you hope TJC had had them

Basically anything and any ideas that would help us start off the discussion!

I shall also remind you again that this is not a formal meeting. It's a small little gathering at our Art Room with our Towkay Neo and Lucky Heng that includes tea! Yay!

Hello my fellow art farts! Today is another post about TJ! =D

TJ is going to set aside a sum of money (I can't remember if its 20k or 200k but I think it's the latter, coz obviously 20k is of not much use!) to refurbish the art blocks which includes the study area, grass patch at the study area and CO and band rooms' block (I hope I didn't miss anything out) and we'll later call it the ARTS HUB. Mr Heng would like us to help out by maybe giving suggestions of designs etc. to the new look of the ARTS HUB. So after the exams, which is next week onwards, we could probably meet up and discuss about some of these things and maybe draft out some sketches etc. As your exams are still ongoing, this post only serves as a notification and more details would be up soon regarding how and what we're going to do! hello dearies! it's valentine's day! you know valentine's day is not only for couples and it's not a crime to be date-less (we all know that too well don't we?). ^^ i just want to let you know that i love you all and i miss having you all by my side all the time to cheer me up and lug me around. it's such a shame that i knew how to bake and wanted to immerse myself in the valentine's day mood only after we've graduated! so to make up for the valentine's day cupcakes that you missed, here's a duo of mini cupcakes! white chocolate and matcha and dark chocolate and earl grey! feel free to lick your screens, just dont lick mine! =D

when i took these photos of the peach blossoms i have blooming in my corridor, i was instantly reminded of what seasheep said about the enormous, faux peach blossoms at chinatown.

ok! enough of the pseudo art outing stuff! now its time to talk about the REAL art class gathering! yes! i'm gonna discuss with you guys, right here, about the new year visit to neo's place!

lets decide which day we shall visit the neo family! since we have a make-up public holiday given by our dearest gar-wer-men, we have an additional day to the new year long weekend. so... we have 2 choices. we can either visit the neos on Tuesday, 20th February or the Saturday following the CNY which is 24th February. PLEASE VOTE VIA TAGBOARD!

when we a rough decision on which day i shall ask neo about what time we should set the gathering at okie? EVERYBODY HAS TO COME. i'm gonna blacklist ppl who dont come and i wont give them cakes(or tartlets)! HRMPH!

(Network was down when I wrote this…guess what I did…of cos the smart gal is capable of thinking something new: to write into the newly installed Microsoft word and copy and paste…-_-)
and the smart gal rem her password despite no having blogged here for eons!

we were off to choc foundue on 27th. The so called art outing(which mh insisted it to be called) only comprises of sk, yt, mh and me...but we were glad we have each other...no one was known to be chocoholic.It was a try out session... So, as expected, it was quite a disappointment.

Things that were there:
1) A chef who’s there to cook hot chocolate with milk and choc chips that reminded all of us of Aussie’s choc factory.
2) very very nice tiramisu (my fav dessert) in a mini cup form.

3) Many many delicious looking tarts, and chocolates that looked better than they taste bleah…

4) One fondue machine, together with some pathetic variety of fruits: there’s only water apples, honeydew, pineapple, and marshmallows. Where’s all the strawberries la…grapes la..?Trying to scrimp right u! whose name shall not be mentioned over e blog…

5) Some pudding displayed in different presentations but taste all the same! and cherries used were those preserved kind!

Total conclusion…it was a waste of time and money!
Well. its not Fulleton my dear.

We were all craving for salty food, one of us even suggested that there should be a choc and chicken buffet and it’ll all be perfect.ha. We strolled down Chinatown with the attempt to find dumplings. The feeling was akin to the supper we’ve had after finished painting the mural over at HPB. In the end we settled for dim sum at this ulu restaurant and missed out the place-to-be for dim sum-tian jing lou..
Nonetheless, it was a great supper.

We were strolling along in search of dumplings we missed over at the Hongkong dim sum café.till, we found some new and interesting things!

1) the gay/lesbian bar!(mh was like:see seee!thats the rainbow flag!)

2) The interplay of shadows of la wei on the red and white canvas..its the rotated indo la wei flag!haa

3) Nice nice tao hua!for people like me to have more more tao hua yun this new year!lol…despo….

4) A shophouse was “decorated” with some patterns projected from the adjacent building. foreground's one signboard which is obviously in need of some maintainance showing a vivid example of direct translation of road signs in Singapore!haa…

- Mrs Neo has requested for everyone to get a santa hat for the party! yes the red hat with white faux fur trim. according to mrs neo its 2 bucks and can be gotten at watsons.
We have decided to have you guys make 2 pins instead of a astonishing 30. so yup one would be for yourself and the other one we'll put into a basket to let ppl choose from or you can simply just go exchange with other ppl. so get ready your 2 pins! you can make more if you want.

- For gift exchange, we're going to have you guys pick out your giftee. and we're gonna probably split into 2 groups (year 3s and year 2s) and (Year 4s and year 5s) OR just across one level group, ie year 5s will exchange gifts among themselves, year 4s, so on. this is so that you will know your giftee well enough to know what to get for him/her! but we havent confirmed attendance so the "lucky draw" for your giftees will not be able to take place just yet but soon enough for you to get your presents ready!! Gifts are tabbed at maximum of 10 bucks!

- For FOOD, budget would be 10 bucks per person. so for example if all year 3s are going we'll get $90 worth of food. and the way you're gonna get the food ready is up to you to decide so... you can either work like the year 2s, who all pool in money to get kk's mum to cook, or just go single and get your own food item to the party!
